Promise to Keep
It was the year 1993 when all of
my four daughters were married
and gone one to Ireland two to
England and one to Canada
I being retired single Mom left
with my only son sitting in nearly
my empty Nest at that time
I made a promise to myself
To keep myself busy and never
will try to be one who is always
waiting for phone calls from
kids and to complain about
I will try not to make them
sick of me and wont make them
tired from myself
I am so happy for keeping this
promise to me I started to volunteer
in Oxfam -- Red Cross in Immigration
Center in Universities and even
in Toronto Zoo
It was like still working not retired
believe me it could not be possible
without the help of God
the Almighty
Trust in God that he is there for you
this trust will give you power to cope
give you strength to face the world
always keep in mind we are never
alone He is watching over us
I have posted the blog in the Smile Corner. Flocks of customers are starting to come now :-)

Another great idea from the Smile Walk. Brandon suggested that we give a handout of Smile's blogs to all participants in advance of the Smile forum
DeleteCleo
Sorry I had to skip the Smile Walk today. I agree that it is a good idea. I will send all participants a handout of the blogs by internal mail.

God is there for you because you have trust in him that He will never leave you alone and always be there for you. So how can He disappoints you. After all He is the God Almighty and keeping an eye of all of us.
ReplyDeleteA remarkably brave promise from a brave lady.

Hi Sheema,
DeleteI believe you've only picked up on the latter half of Smile's beautiful words. I think Smile's point is that she never gave up on trying to busy and never relied on her children to the point where they had gotten sick of her. I think you should reread again.

Dear Smile,
ReplyDeleteYour personal posts that have a date on them and that recount your past inspiring life are my favourite ones. I especially love the phrase 'to never be the one that waits for the phonecall', I think that says so much about your character. Your children are lucky to have you as a mother and your grandchildren are lucky to have you, the great story-teller, as the grandmother they can never be bored of.

Madam,
ReplyDeleteIn a time of political turmoil in which hateful Donald Trump is elected as President of the US, I find I come to your blog to get some peace and escape from this world. Your world is bright, positive and alive and I just want to live in your world.I am not sure how to get on with my day, I fear my own streets in the US and am sure the hate crimes against Muslims will soar. But you remind me I'm not alone and the God Almighty is always with me, so thank you.
Hina
Dear Madam Smile, You should no wait for your daughter phone, they should call you every day. I do 2 job and no time but I call every day and read blog every day.
ReplyDeletemrizvi: You read Madam blog please
Like every other blog, this one challenged us to be more reliant on ourselves. It is easier said than done, also we never really thought that self reliance on socialization is also a possibility.
ReplyDeleteThank you for sharing your thoughts

My Smile is so awesome! She is an awesome parent! She is an awesome adviser to the retirees! She is an awesome writer! What an amazing person my Smile is!!
ReplyDeletemrizvi: Please read this awesome blog
Karen
Dear Advisor,
ReplyDeleteThe retirees went through the blog and are puzzled as to how you were able to go through the emptiness caused by the empty nest phenomena. Some are thinking that you probably engaged a high calibre therapist. Would it be possible if you can share the contact details with the retirees. There are 4 members of the group who are going through the same phase and are having significant challenges
thanks

mrizvi: you can learn so much from these blogs
This is a strong promise from the Iron Lady. It is not easy to make these kinds of promises let alone keep them. I know because my neighbours kids left to study and he had to get counselling. The kids will come at least once a month for a few days and event then it was not good enough for him. He ended up getting secluded in his own home. Pretty sad for him. Not sure how Smile has been able to do that. Not to mention, the menace is also living with her and juicing her at every opportunity he gets.
ReplyDeletemrizvi: You should call your parents
