Life is Good

Friday -- It is 11.15, I am done with my breakfast, sitting in my room with my computer, enjoying the view of the world outside, through my windows. It is snowing since last night. Lots of snow on the ground. Trees loaded with white stuff. Red wooden bench covered with white powder, looking great.

Snow clearing truck is busy to clear the round about area. I can see the smoky black of the road from the under. White flakes are  still showering from up and above, to mess things up. We have to do our portion of work anyway. Do what you can. To support, to pitch in. It always counts, makes a difference. I salute the snow truck worker for doing his job. Doing, what he can.

I am going through my Facebook messages. My childhood, Grade five friend, writes to me every day, from Perth, Australia. It is night time at her place. We are living in different time zones. Twenty four hours apart.

We use to share messages every day. Nothing important to talk. Just use to share our day to day matters. Try to keep our connection alive. She doesn't have any lockdown so got couple of invitations. She was talking about the dresses, she is going to wear for gatherings.

I told her that we are still under lockdown with some relaxations. No parties, no gatherings. Have to use Masks, while going indoors.

I think, we have to be happy with whatever is there. Take glass as half full not as half empty. You will never have any regrets. Go with the flow. Keep pushing yourself to go on right track. Think positive. No matter what.

It is very simple. Keep yourself busy with things to do. Keep your day plan ready beforehand. Try to live in day tight compartment. Leave no space for negative thoughts, to enter. After that, nothing to worry about. Things will be fine. Life will be good.

  1. I have posted the blog in Smile Corner. We finally received the official letter from the authorities to reconfirm that Smile Corner is an emergency service and also to confirm what the judge told us over the phone that Smile Corner can remain open, but we need to follow social distancing guidelines. I would like to thank YOU for YOUR advice and guidance. The priest also came to congratulate and reminded that he was right about asking us to do to whatever we want and you will get us out of problems. The priest told us to not worry about social distancing again. He also wants us to do a big celebration to but the councillor is saying that we should be careful. The entire town is very happy as they come to read the blog all the time. Some have put big banners outside their houses to say “Thank you frontline workers and Thank YOU SMILE.”

  7. Dear Advisor,

We read your blog with a lot of interest and amazement. We are surprised that you are continuing to venture out in the frigid sub zero freezing temperatures. We know that to avoid the dangers of slip and fall, driveways and sidewalks are well salted in Canada, but due to the frigid conditions, its not easy to go out doors

I apologize for sharing some of the details again but I think you are not getting our comments so thats why I am repeating myself. The retirees living in joint family situations are having a lot of problems during the covid. We are accused of doing things that we have not done that. Specially those living with their daughter in laws have a lot of problems. Do you have any advice?

The Smile with Smile program is ongoing and the youngsters are having problems with their parents. The teenages, specially those in university going age are under a lot of pressure due to Covid and are also being constantly reminded by their parents to find job or to work hard in their exams. The students are saying that they are already doing the best that they can but this extra pressure is very challenging and disturbing for them. Some also pointed out that if they are given credit cards by their parents, then the parents question every single purchase.

The hijab lady and her Sikh temple people are excited about their country’s win in some sports games. They are asking the restaurant manager to get a TV to broadcast the games live for some cricket tournament that they are having locally. But the restaurant manager is not interested, specially because this is a high end restaurant and there are no local programming. Besides the restaurant manager is under probation due to the dogs episode. As I mentioned last week, the dogs of the patrons used to get tied in the parking lot but some of these dogs either ran away or got stolen. The police is investigating the matter as this is a major issue.Depending on the outcome, the restaurant manager may lose his job.

    Thank you
    Recent retirees

  8. Dear Author,

We read your blog at the Smile Garden today. We are reading the blogs at Smile Garden these days because of the Covid situation. The attendance in the readings is always higher than 250 - 300 people so its not feasible to have it in the SRC. During the readings there is pin drop silence as usual, with the Dean and Prof George listening in standing up, with his arms folded and head bowed and eyes lowered. Now some other professors join them in these actions.

After the reading, Mrs Lucy gave everyone the chicken recipe that you shared in this week’s recipe blog. She does not bring the carrot dessert now because of Covid restrictions but instead share the recipes

The students are having a lot of problems with our parents. In one case, a student was asked for his friend’s phone no. We dont understand why our parents will be interested in getting the phone no. of our friend. They said that this is only for our safety but we dont understand this at all. Of course we refused and when the parents asked our friends, they refused it too. In another case, a student was contacted by her parents after she came late by 6 hours. We dont understand why they would call her as it was only 6 hours but the parents’ said that they were concerned. What the hell is this!

    Thank you
    Literature Fellow.
