My Chicago Trip
It is Wednesday bright beautiful sunny morning with 11 C below zero.
I am working full time today. I mean playing Darts and Carpet Bowling
in my library. I am just back from my Chicago trip.
It is ten hours drive, with couple of stop overs, takes twelve hours from
Pickering, a hectic trip for me, because of my stiff back. Everything went
well. I was able to push my sister, to get out from her Retirement Home
premises, to spend some time with me.
My routine is now as usual. I was back on Monday around 10 at night.
Tuesday, I was busy in my kitchen, had to unpack my stuff and make calls.
I called my brother, my sister in Chicago and to my other sister back home.
Wednesday, I was working full time but I skipped Bowling as it was tough
for me to bend down. I played Darts and came back after twelve. My eldest
grandson is here for his three weeks vacation. I made Mushroom Omelette
for him. It is such a wonderful feeling to give happiness to the people around.
Tonight for we Seniors, there is Mayor's light Tour of the city of Pickering.
I will go for that. Future, no one can predict. We have to avail the
moments in hand. My friend will pick me up at 6.30. It is cold 14 C
below zero, I will be fine. I am all dressed up in layers.
I have my winter black coat on with my maroon sweater underneath.
Parking lot of the library is full. My friend parked her car across at
the Plaza. It was just five minutes walk.
My friend picked me up at 6.30 in the evening, I am back after 10.15 at
night.Tomorrow on Thursday, at 9.30 in the morning, I have my Dentist
appointment. My back is the same, giving me problem. But I am not
giving up.
I think there is a tug of war going on between myself and my old age
syndrome. I know, I am old, my body is a seventy plus old machinery,
on top, I am getting older day by day, still I want that, this fight has to
go on like a seven game series. I wont let it go one sided.

ReplyDeleteI have posted the blog in Smile Corner. This is market day but customers are coming to my shop in waves. They come here to read the blog first before going to the market. We have lots of people from out of town who come to read blog and then do shopping. The new Councillor has been coming every day. Some customers are joking and saying that she is coming here because she can meet the entire town here and does not need to have a townhall. Priest is here too. He is making some notes. He also said a prayer for your stiff back.

I say I no suppose eat cake. She say but that was long time before. It Christmas time and all eat cake and all become friend.You Madam must have write about that. I say no because she do lot things like push her sister go out, give tour to Dear Mr. Mayor, go Chicago, go Tim Hortons. I wanted to tell her more but she jumped in and said Yes, she does lot thing but did she write for you? I say no she very busy. Wicked worker say so she take care of everyone but you. My mother in law only sit in one place and does not go out for walk. All she does is complain that I no say hello, I no talk with her. I do so many things but she only looks at ones that I dont do. There is no point

Your blog was very timely today. I was having a very difficult time in one of my business meetings, as is my custom, I read your blog during one of the scheduled coffee breaks. Everyone was amazed that you went 10 hours away on a stiff back to get your sister out and about ! It inspired me and others to keep pursuing our goals irrespective of the challenges and speed bumps

ReplyDeleteThe retirees did not go for our long walk today. We are still very tired from the walk from yesterday. Some of the retirees are still suffering from cramps also. This walk, though very long for us, is nothing compared to the walks that you have. The retirees instead went straight to the reading of your blog.
The retirees read your blog with glee and awe. We simply could not believe that you chose to go on a 10 hour drive and that also when you were not 100% well. Stiff back can be very tricky. Many retirees also noted that you chose to do that with your son who is not always careful in taking care of you. The retirees also noted that all this effort was to help your sister. The retirees dont go for drives longer than 1 hour so we cant even understand and comment on your herculean effort.
The retired priest was here and he said that you went at this time because you wanted to celebrate the Christmas season with your sister. He said that as a good Christian you are giving a message to all to do the same. The hijab lady was here and chanted Ella Homa for you. The retired priest didnt like that and made a comment about the chanting. The restaurant manager was also not happy because the temple people were raising loud slogans also lie Yeah Elli or something like that.
The Smile with Smile committee gave an update about the Professor who attended the Smile with Smile event. She is a professor at Western University in Ontario, Canada. They have been trying to reach her but since you told us to stop, we have disbanded the committee which was in the process of establishing additional contacts and procuring additional information

ReplyDeleteWe had the blog reading at the Smile Garden today. It was cold but with this many people, there is no way we can have the reading in the SRC. You may be surprised that there are so many people even though the exams are over however a no. of students and professors have chosen to stay as opposed to going back home. They are saying that its more fun to be celebrating the Christmas here with your blog than going home. Mrs. Lucy brought the flat bread to give after the reading to all participants. One of the professors' wife who was there said that it must be difficult for her but Mrs. Lucy said that it is no trouble as she feels that all the listeners of Smile blog are her guests.
The students who have gone home are really upset with their parents. We are treated like small kids, almost babies. We are asked about whose home we are visiting, when will we be back, what we did etc The parents dont realize that we are here for a break. Also the siblings are upset because they need to share room, TV and games etc with us. We know that the lucky guy is not going through any of the stuff but for many of us, its a problem

We also wanted to confess a trifle transgression that we engaged in relating to a friendly wager that we had with our friends. Our perspective was that your words are sagacious, inspirational as well as educational all stitched together with a folksy flair. Our friends, who were as yet oblivious to your brand of high octane wisdom and entertainment, mocked us and often asked us what we have been smoking. Their perspective was that not only is it highly unlikely, it is outright implausible. Well, after we shared a few samples of your artistic blogs, they almost fell from their chairs.
